Schools of the North Caucasus during the Great Patriotic war

Introduction. In 2025, the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War was commemorated. The year was declared the Year of the Defender of the Fatherland, which brought renewed attention to the civic duty of teachers in the North Caucasus during the Great Patriotic War. The article explores the social significance of schools and their support for the front in the Stavropol Region and the republics of the North Caucasus. Goal. This article highlights the development of education and the resistance of teachers and students to Hitler’s directives and the Germanization of schools in the Stavropol Region and the North Caucasus during the occupation. Materials and Methods. The methodological basis of the study consists of historiographical research methods grounded in the principles of historicism and a value-based approach. The analysis and interpretation of historical data were carried out using federal and regional archival materials. Results and Discussion. The materials were presented in the format of a Golden Lecture as part of the international educational project organized by the teaching staff of partner universities from CIS countries. Conclusion. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the leaders of the North Caucasus republics, along with principals, teachers, educators, and the students themselves, made every effort to ensure the continued functioning of schools during the fascist occupation.
