The journal Newsletter of North-Caucasus Federal University is known to a wide range of the scientific community. In 2025, it will celebrate the 28th anniversary of the founding of its predecessor, the Collection of Scientific Papers of Stavropol State Technical University.

Twenty-eight years - a lot or a little? It means a whole generation of professors, associate professors, postgraduates, and students had an opportunity to publish the results of scientific activity. In connection with this event, the authors of the article provide a brief historical background on the creation, development and activities of the scientific publication at the present time.

The origins of the emergence and development of the journal are connected with V. M. Averbukh who worked in the Educational-scientific-information center of the Stavropol state technical University. V. M. Averbukh used to head the Department of scientific and technical information all-Union scientific research Institute of phosphors and high-purity substances. There he was responsible for the publication of proceedings of "Luminescent materials and high-purity substances" since 1969.

Since December 1996, the first vice-rector E. N. Shiyanov supervised the activities on work obtaining the permission to publish the collection within the university, to obtain ISBN numbers, to form editorial boards and to set "portfolios" of articles.

It was decided to publish collections of scientific papers on thematic series: Physico-chemical, Natural Sciences, Oil and Gas, Humanities and Socio-economic Sciences and Food.

The first edition was a collection of scientific papers, the series "Physico-chemical". Issue 1. was printed in the Stavropol regional printing house. In this issue, 31 articles were published in the sections: Structure and properties of materials, Materials of electronic technology, Mathematical modeling, Economic and environmental problems in materials science. There are 119 large format pages in total. Other series of Collections of scientific papers were published in the printing house of the university.

The structure of the collections and their formatting changed over time, forming the scientific periodical Newsletter of the North Caucasus State Technical University (1997-2012). In connection with the establishment in May 2012 of the North-Caucasus Federal University on the basis of the North Caucasus State Technical University and Stavropol State University, it was re-registered as Newsletter of North-Caucasus Federal University.

The journal is included in the List of leading peer-reviewed scientific journals and publications in which the main scientific results of dissertations for the degrees of doctor and candidate of Sciences should be published. The Editor-in-Chief from the beginning to the present is Dr. Sci. (Econ.), Professor V. N. Parakhina, the executive secretary is Cand. Sci. (Econ.) R. M. Ustaev.

The first issue of the Newsletter of the North-Caucasus Federal University was published in 2013. It contained 12 headings. A total of 55 articles on 245 pages. The heading "Information about authors" appeared in Russian and English, indicating phone numbers, places of work. The issue ends with the "Regulations on the procedure for reviewing author's original articles" and "Requirements for registration and submission of manuscripts to the editorial office of the journal".

In connection with the requirements of the Higher Attestation Commission, the names of sections in the journal were changed. Currently, the journal publishes articles under the following headings: Technical Sciences (05.27.00 Electronics); Economic Sciences; Pedagogical Sciences.

The editorial board of the journal thanks all the authors of the journal articles for fruitful cooperation in the past, present and future activities of the scientific publication.
