THEORETICAL BASIS AND METHODICAL POTENTIAL OF A COMPUTER LINGUISTICS CLASSROOM BASED ON FREE AND OPEN SOURCE SOFTWARE

Abstract

The article deals with the scientific basis of developing a modern multipurpose educational and scientific linguistics classroom operating predominantly on free and open source software (FOSS). The topicality of integrating free and open source software into linguistic education and science is proven to be dictated by both practical reasons, in particular, by the aim to attain a high level of independence and freedom in choosing and to use the latest, cutting edge computer technologies and software in linguistic education at universities; signiicant increase in computer security and independence from speciic foreign computer technologies, and by economical reasons, that is, signiicant economy of university funds due to the reduction in the amount of commercially licensed proprietary software, which is especially topical in the context of sanction-based policy of Western countries and import substitution in Russian Federation.
